They don't like it from their chiefs. They don't like it from civilian review boards, they don't like it from their mayors, and they certainly don't like it from the media, but scrutiny is what we do, and without scrutiny the ability of the media to bear witness and accountability dies.
Suffice it to say, Twitter had no sympathy. SHE'S having a breakdown? We crossed the 250k dead threshold 15 minutes ago! Sign the damn transition papers @GSAEmily - Americans are dying on your watch! #MurphyBreakdown — 💅🏽✨Oh For Crissakes... 🛹🥁✨ (@lisareynaloe) November 18, 2020 Can we stop it with the attempts to normalize the corrupt behaviors these trump sycophants. Her behavior is outrageous and there shouldn't be a single puff piece written about her. #MurphyBreakdown — BlackGirlTweet (@FacingTheDay) November 18, 2020 Facts don't care about your feelings, Emily Murphy. Biden won. Time to do your job and authorize the transition. The longer you delay, the more Americans will die. #MurphyBreakdown — Lindy Li (@lindyli) November 18, 2020 9/11 Commission found that delay of transition in 2000 contributed to the murder of 3, 000 people on 9/11. In COVID deaths & possible terror attacks of 2020, @GSAEmily will, should & must be condemned as responsible for those deaths. Then, Emily, you can have a #MurphyBreakdown — Kurt "Wear a Mask" Eichenwald (@kurteichenwald) November 18, 2020 So, you're telling me Emily Murphy is struggling with the fact that she is a subserviant, submissive, coward playing partisan games with an election, and we are supposed to feel bad?
Kurt brought up this GSA administrator, Emily Murray. She should be sued right now, okay? Not later, she should be sued right now for dereliction of her duty. And that's the kind of thing that I would bring that as Biden's attorney general. I would sue people for ethics violations. The Trump administration has been so ethically questionable that we kind of just let it roll over ourselves. Right? "It's an ethical violation, not a statutory. " Look, ethics violations are there. We have rules, and those are supposed to be the guardrails. And when we have gotten so lax in this country about basic, ethical requirements, I would start -- I would start putting teeth behind those ETHICAL requirements. I would start suing people. I would start suing judges who give fundraising dinner invitations. I would start suing all of these people for their ETHICAL failures to bring America back to some level of moral standing. Dr. Johnson heartily agreed, adding that he'd be fully in favor of impeaching the "highly incompetent judges" Trump and Mitch McConnell have put in place, who aren't qualified, yet are appointed for life.
Florida's Rep. Ted Deutsch had harsh words for fellow southerner, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and her Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy. On Jonathan Capehart's Sunday morning show, he supported MTG's removal from Congress, and claimed he had no confidence Rep. McCarthy would exhibit the moral fortitude required to stand up to the psychotic conspiracy caucus taking over the Republican party. Rep. Deutsch said of McCarthy, "This is a moment where he needs to stand up, and if he doesn't, he is selling out the Republican party to a conspiracy cult going forward. " Already been done, I'm afraid. Deutsch happens to represent the Florida district where the tragic mass shooting happened at Marjory Stone Douglas High School, and David Hogg was there to not only back up his rep, but speak out even more forcefully. When Capehart asked Hogg about his encounters with MTG, he recalled that in addition to the video that has surfaced recently of her stalking him outside the Capitol, there were about 10-15 minutes where she was following him inside the Capitol, yelling and screaming and him and the people with him.
Stelter wondered. "I'm saying President Trump cares about facts and truth, " Ellis replied. "And as a journalist, you should care about facts and truth. And to stand behind this poll is actually embarrassing for you. Because this poll is so far outside the margins and standards. " "That's not true, " Stelter chimed in.
Hogg said, "At that time, we started chanting 'Enough is Enough, " and the Capitol Police showed up in about 30 seconds. That's how I knew when I saw the insurrection happening, that the police were not responding as timely as they otherwise would have. " He continued his point to its disturbing conclusion: "Because when a bunch of kids were shouting 'Enough is Enough' against this conspiratorial anti-Semite in Congress as she was trying to attack us and threaten to essentially kill us with a gun, as she says in that video that's being shown, they showed up in about 30 seconds. But when a bunch of white supremacists showed up to overthrow our democracy, they didn't show up for nearly two hours. " When Jonathan Capehart asked Hogg about his feelings about MTG's election to Congress, then elevation to a high-profile committee (Education, of all things), he did not mince words, calling it "horrifying. " What awful things it says about our country that "she's been rewarded for her behavior by Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. "
Power of all rank and stripe does not enjoy being held to account. Donald Trump has spent the last four years attacking the press for doing its job—a practice that although some warned could have dire consequences, few believed would actually manifest into physical distaste for the press, but that is exactly what happened. On Tuesday night, as I stood on the perimeter side of a police line, one block west of New York City's Union Square, I asked an officer why the line was established where it was, when there was no evident risk to anyone's safety. His response his response was if I continue to press the issue, I might be arrested—arrested for asking the question. In Minneapolis I was hit by tear gas a few times and then by a rubber bullet. I was in a crowd upon which police were firing, so it's likely the police had no idea my team was made up of journalists. But as my crew and I pulled back, we approached an intersection upon which police, supported by the Minnesota National Guard had converged.
On AM Joy, Elie Mystal applauded Rep. Bill Pascrell Jr. for officially coming for Rudy Giuliani's bar card, along with those of the rest of Trump's legal team. Mystal reminded viewers that there are actual ethical standards attorneys are sworn to uphold, including not bringing frivolous lawsuits into the courtroom. Giuliani is not only violating these standards, but for reasons most abhorrent to a rational American: overturning the results of an election. If these aren't actions that warrant disbarment, none exist. Later on in the discussion, guest host Dr. Jason Johnson waved an imaginary magic wand, making Mystal Biden's attorney general. Johnson asked him what else he would do to make sure this kind of legal "brinkmanship" didn't happen again in any future elections. Mystal continued on in the same vein as earlier when he spoke of Pascrell's aggressive pursuit of consequences for the Trump team's egregious lawlessness. MYSTAL: Well, first of all, I would apply all the ethical rules.
CNN has one of those weird personality pieces up from sources who must be very close to Emily Muphy, the General Services Administrator who is in charge of signing off on the election result. So far, she's refused to do what in most other years has been routine. But it's 2020, and that means nothing is routine anymore. Instead, we get this perverse story of a tortured soul caught in a "terrible situation", "a consummate professional" who's "a deeply moral person" but also "a scrupulous attorney", who thinks she's doing her "honest duty as someone who has sworn true allegiance to the Constitution. " And other horseshit. Source: CNN "She absolutely feels like she's in a hard place. She's afraid on multiple levels. It's a terrible situation, " one friend and former colleague of Murphy's told CNN. "Emily is a consummate professional, a deeply moral person, but also a very scrupulous attorney who is in a very difficult position with an unclear law and precedence that is behind her stance. "
